One compatibility gotcha: Linear’s keypads use a 10-wire ribbed cable on some models and a 5-wire stranded on others. If a previous repair spliced them with wire nuts instead of gel-filled butt connectors, moisture gets in and the gate starts ghosting. The honest answer is this: you can safely diagnose a Linear keypad issue on your own up to the point where you’re touching wires. Check the obvious first: is the keypad backlight on? Does the gate operator still work from the wall button or a remote? Does the problem occur only when the sun hits the keypad at a certain angle? That information saves us time. What you shouldn’t do is open the keypad housing and start probing with a multimeter unless you’re comfortable with low-voltage wiring.
